A Blast on the Nature Trail

What a summer of events on the Nature Trail! Perfect blue skies and sunshine, but all of us complaining of the heat. Not to be defeated, the wonderful Estates Team came to our rescue for each event, putting up gazebos for us and chairs in the shade so each of our events could go ahead. For each event we made a delicious cold fruit punch, served to everyone in the interval from under the refreshment gazebo, along with home-baked cakes which were also very popular and soon disappeared. I think the favourite for each event had to be the ice-cream bike (notice not a van!!) which was ridden by Russell House staff round the trail, delivering ice-creams to everyone who wanted them.On our third event we promoted Szymon, Head of Care, to Head of Ice cream delivery by bike, a role which he particularly enjoyed!!

In mid-July we hosted the 49 strong Rock Choir who sang their hearts to us all under the shade of the laurel hedge. The choir itselfloved the event as did our audience with the choir saying it was their favourite event of the year so far. They loved being treated to refreshments in the interval -that really made their day.

At the end of July, we were treated to the classical guitar music of Peter Black, a virtuoso guitar player who used to play for us atChalfont many years ago. His music was so soothing that the audience were stilland calm throughout, enjoying the amazing atmosphere he was able to create.

And then August came and the sun was still shining! We were delighted to welcome back Lissie Allsopp, such a popular singer with the Chalfont audience, and she moved round the audience with such ease, singing to everyone as she went, leaving smiles on everyone’s’ faces-a real joy!

As I write, Summer still doesn’t feel as if it is over ,so I hope many more families, staff and residents will continue to enjoy the Nature Trail over the next few weeks.
